Emily Lockwood doesn't believe the tales she's been told about what goes on in the mountains of Sevierville, Tennessee. Her grandfather has taken up lodging there on the hillside in a house called Thrush Ridge Manor, and she agrees to go keep him company. 

Upon her arrival Emily feels almost instantly unsettled, and the confidence that she had that there are no such things as ghosts is swept away with the wind as she finds the forgotten diary of Catherine Linton. Emily is driven to unravel the mystery of Airish Dome and its isolated inhabitants, and to find out what truly happened years ago before she, herself, becomes haunted.
